We provide teen counselling, from the ages of 10 - 17 years old.

Our therapists have experience of working with under 18s, and aim to provide the best care to to the teen and parent/guardian.

How does it work?

The parent(s)/guardian can book an appointment through the website, email, or give us a call. Once a day and time is agreed upon, the parent/guardian signs the consent form either through email or by signing the form before the first session. You can also have a chat with us over the phone if you have any specific issues, concerns or questions you need answered. Then the under 18 has their session with the therapists, which is confidential. The under 18 is free to share whatever they want with you, but all that's said in session, if it doesn't break the rules of confidentiality stays in the room. Luckily we are just beside the omni shopping centre, so there's plenty to do for the hour that your child is in their session.

How does teen counselling differ from adult counselling?

Teen counseling addresses the unique developmental and social needs of adolescents. It often focuses on identity formation, peer relationships, academic pressures, and family dynamics. Therapists use creative techniques like art or play therapy to help teens express themselves.

Parental involvement is important to improve family communication and support the teen. Confidentiality is balanced with legal obligations to inform parents in cases of risk.

Goals include managing emotions, improving social skills, and enhancing self-esteem. Peer influence and social media are significant factors, making issues like bullying and social anxiety common topics. This tailored approach helps meet the specific needs of teens effectively.

How much involvement is required from the parent(s)/guardian?

Teen counseling primarily focuses on the adolescent, with minimal involvement from the guardian. Guardians are mainly responsible for ensuring the teen attends sessions and can check in with the therapist if needed. Most of the time, the guardian's role involves dropping off and picking up the teen, with no direct participation in the sessions themselves. However ofcourse if the guardian has any concerns they are free to speak to the therapist at any time, but knowing that the therapist has to keep the confidentiality of the teens sessions. The teen can share whatever they want to share with the guardian but the therapist can't, unless they have discussed it in advance with the teen.

Confidentiality

In teen counseling, confidentiality is crucial for building trust between the therapist and the adolescent. While therapists strive to keep sessions private, they must balance this with legal and ethical obligations to inform guardians in cases of risk, such as threats of harm to the teen or others. Generally, details shared in sessions remain confidential, fostering a safe space for teens to express themselves openly. Guardians can receive general updates but specific content discussed in therapy typically stays between the teen and the therapist.

Session cost

At the moment our sessions for teen therapy is 70e per hour. This is due to the fact that its more complicated process than adult therapy.

How many sessions are needed?

This is completely up to the teen and parents/guardian. Usually it takes 6 sessions to resolve something but it can vary on the individual needs of the teen. Every case is different.
